Re: Binding application windows to a workspace in Gnome

Hi,

what I would like to do is the following: having an application (its window) placed in a certain workspace, all windows created by the process running inside the main window should be created in the same workspace.

for example: I have a computer simulation running on some workspace and, from time to time, it creates new windows (figures). technically, these figures are childs of the main application, however they appear on the taskbar.

the problem is, if I am working on another workspace, newly created windows popup in the current workspace, even if their creating application is in a background workspace.

what I would like to do is that the newly created windows to remain in the same workspace as their generator.

is this possible?

Thanks.

Re: Binding application windows to a workspace in Gnome

I guess it depends on the application. In the application above, all windows created by "Pidgin" gets automatically moved to workspace 7. This applies to the "main" window as well as any new window that this application starts. It's possible you can make rules based on something else, e.g. window ID's or class or properties if the application name is not the same for all new windows.
